Fun Trends In Japan

Japanese culture, anime, and foods have long captured the world’s attention. As a leader in technology and innovation, Japan is first at the forefront of change. However, their widespread influence doesn’t stop there. Japan has also seen an increased interest in its many novelty trends and unique experiences.

These international trends are typically spread through social media sites like TikTok and Instagram. People of all ages and backgrounds can enjoy these fads and connect with others worldwide. The list of trends is long, though some of the best are listed in this article.

Japanese Trends

  • Music

Though J-Pop (Japanese Pop) has been popular in Japan for a long time, K-Pop is steadily climbing higher on the charts. Because many K-Pop groups are formed through competitions, they have people try out from across the world. Due to this, some K-Pop groups, such as NiZiu, have all Japanese members. Also, most K-Pop groups release singles which feature the Japanese language to target their large Japanese fanbase. Along with NiZiu, BTS, a group that became immensely popular worldwide, is celebrated in Japan.

Both groups have choreography that fans imitate through social media sites. NiZiu’s “Step and a Step” music video created a dance trend called the “nawatobi dance” (meaning jump rope dance). BTS’ song “Dynamite” is often the background music for fans trying to imitate the moves featured in the music video. These dance trends are a fun way to familiarize yourself with Japanese music.

  • Television

On television channels, Fuwa Chan, a Japanese comedian, has become increasingly popular. Her brightly colored sports apparel makes her easy to spot. Additionally, a show by Korean producers, called Ai no Fujichaku in Japanese and Crash Landing on You in English, populates televisions across Japan.

  • Anime and Manga

Manga and anime have always been popular in Japan, but this last year saw a record breaker. Kimetsu no Yaiba, called Demon Slayer in English, has become one of the best-selling manga series of all time.

  • Kawaii Style

Kawaii, meaning “cute” in Japanese, has become associated with a particular clothing style. Apparel sold under this name typically consists of bright colors and eccentric accessories. For example, one might wear rainbow-colored hair extensions, carry around a Hello Kitty purse, or maybe wear a pink tutu; the possibilities are endless.

  • Single Earring

These days, people are walking around with one earring in their ear. The earring can be small, such as a stud, or large, such as big hoops. This statement piece is a sign of cool vibes and good taste.
